We are so pleased to present this gorgeous vintage Buddy "L" Ford Dump Truck from the Flivver line. This truck has the very rare spoke wheels.
Buddy "L" toys were first manufactured by the Moline Pressed Steel Company in 1921. Ever since, Buddy "L" toys have become some of the most collectible in the world due to their high-quality and realistic design.
This beautiful little truck is model number 211, Type II. This later type had a different, slightly longer truck bed. It was manufactured in 1928, as a realistic copy of one of the nation's most popular Ford models at the time.
The Ford truck was used predominately for hauling heavy construction materials.
The model's chassis is a classic Ford-type made with a steel channel frame and working steering mechanism.
You will find that the steering wheel controls the front wheels with some ease and dexterity. The chassis also includes steel axles, drop-forged spindles and two and a half inch aluminum wheels.
Ford-designed running boards, fenders, hood and radiator add enormously to the overall look of the truck.
When the small, turning "catch" on the side of left side of the truck is released the body tips backward, releasing the load. The back of the bed features a little, steel door that can be lifted up and pulled down.
The body and chassis of the truck are painted rich black, the wheel wells are rich red and the aluminum "tires" remain their original unpainted silver color.
In front of the driver's seat, beneath the steering wheel you will find the company's original label.
The red and gold paint is quite worn, but the tag in its entirety would have read "The Buddy `L' Line, Pat. Applied For, Quality Toys, Built by Moline Pressed Steel Company, East Moline, Ill."
Some areas of the truck show expected wear and rust. The truck's bed in particular shows a good deal of paint-loss and rust.
However, all condition-issues are purely aesthetic and do not affect the truck's functionality or structural integrity.
This Buddy "L" remains in good condition overall and works incredibly well.
Un-restored 1920's Buddy L models are becoming increasingly rare.
