This is a beautiful vintage clothing brush with an impressive Syroco German shepherd's head on the top.
Clothing brushes were the "lint-rollers" of their day. They allowed a gentleman to remove any unwanted hair or fibers from their clothing.
Usually, they would be kept in the foyer for a quick once-over before leaving the house for the day. Talk about "dry-cleaning".
A small leather strap with a silvertone loop is attached to the reverse of the shepherd's collar so that the brush could be hung on the wall for quick access.
The stiff straw bristles are capped by the highly-detailed head of a German shepherd made from elegant Syroco.
Syroco, or sometimes "Syrocco," is the term applied to a molded material resembling carved wood that was invented and first implemented by a company called the "Syracuse Ornamental Company."
The dog's head, features and collar are rendered in the most exquisite detail and painted masterfully for a beautiful finish.
There is a tiny amount of wear on the paint and the leather strap and straw bristles also show some wear commensurate with their age.
Overall, however, this whimsical little brush remains in very good vintage condition.
