Vintage "The Hub" Horse Hair Straw Aubergine Dream Sun Hat
Made entirely of horse-hair straw, it has truly stood the test of time and remains in good vintage condition.
There is only some slight tearing at the edge of the ruffle and a bit of wear to the ribbon. Neither are obvious, but we include in the description in the spirit of full disclosure.
The wide brim exhibits some slight bends, but nothing too serious. At the reverse, there are some loose threads on the ruffle, but it does not comprise the hat's structural integrity.
The hat is made from overlapping, coiling horsehair straw machine-stitched into a hat shape.
As you can see, the exterior band features a rich, purple velvet ribbon with two little tails.
The interior band is lined with a wide ribbon of aubergine grosgrain; this is where you will find the original retailers tag reading "The Hub, Harry R. Hirshowitz, Wilkes-Barre".
Henry C. Lytton and Sons Company, popularly known as "The Hub," was one of the city's premier clothing stores during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
The main store was originally located on the northwest corner of State and Jackson Streets in Chicago's Loop.
According to many long-time residents of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, the Hub was one of the city's finest retailers from its founding the late 1800's to the 1960's.
With its light straw and wide brim, this sweet and sunny hat is a real collector's dream.
It is very feminine and the color matches the design perfectly.
