Jazz Age Theme Needlepoint Denim Jacket
I would have to agree as an expert needle-pointer, myself. This is a very fine piece of work.
When I got it it was from a high end boutique here in Ormond Beach. It was 25 years ago, and I'd just gotten pregnant with our first and only child. I didn't know how to do needlepoint then, and I mused that I would learn it, because now that I was going to get to stay home with a baby, I'd have hours every day to happily stitch away. When I said this at my baby shower all the ladies burst our laughing. "What? What is so funny?" "You'll find out?"
I don't think I had time, not even twenty minutes, to be able to learn the craft until that baby was sixteen. It didn't take long to understand why the ladies were laughing: They already experienced the "tragic" loss of time of dedicated moms. But before I became a jewelry artist I was just as obsessed with needlepoint as I later became with jewelry. I have a thousand dollars into my big double dorji (begun & finished by me) mandala. It has 470,000 stitches in it. The canvas cost four hundred dollars, and the other six hundred dollars was the money I put into the metallic and silk thread.
So, because I know needlepoint I can tell you this really is a very well done design. I've kept it (in my smoke free home) and not worn it in many years. Part of the price is what I will pay to have it dry cleaned before I mail it. If you just want me to wash it in woolite and let it dry on a rack, I will reduce the price. Just tell me at checkout. I don't DARE put it through the washer and drier. Imagine how horrible it would be if the wool design shrunk and the rest of the jacket did not. I had it dry cleaned right before I stopped wearing it. It was always big on me, but I liked that. Here are the measurements. The first three you have to double.
Shoulder seam to other shoulder seam: 20 Inches. Under arm across chest to other under arm: 23 Inches Waist: 20 Inches. Upper sleeve to cuff: 22 Inches. Under sleeve to cuff: 18 Inches.
So far as I can see, there is nothing wrong with this. I used to roll up the cuffs, since my arms (like the rest of me) are short.
I was playing a lot of piano when I got this jacket. When the baby was three, I started four years of professional accordion lessons. My grand master formerly famous (in the thirties) accordion teacher loved this jacket. He demanded three hours of daily practice, so I'd get up at 4AM to practice for two hours. During those four years my husband was REALLY great with the baby. He's read to her for two hours every night while I'd practice since I often only got an hour in in the morning hours.
I sense a woman with keen fashion sense or a lover of the keyboard, or both, will become the next owner of this neat jacket.
Thanks for looking.
