Offered is an ceramic, Chinese, figurine of a saddled, horse in a very interesting color of clay, a reddish beige clay over which is fired a medley of colors. There is considerable crazing; small vein-like lines that indicate age and that cannot be replicated. The surface also shows oxidation. The Tang Dynasty first made these then they were copied down through the dynasties. When ascertaining the age there has to be signs of crazing as well as some oxidation or chances are you are dealing with a modern reproduction. These have always been popular which is all the more reason to have an authentic one. This looks late 19th c to me. He stands approximately 6.5 inches, is approx. 5 inches long, and 3 inches wide. The horse is in very good condition showing just extensive aging but showing no repairs, cracks, chips, etc.
