Presenting a tiny oval Victorian Mourning Hair Brooch with an unusual design. The oval brooch consists of two ovals. The outer band has a gold dot on the upper and lower part of the oval and filigree design on the ends. The interior oval which is raised has as one of its rims black enamel and inside the center is braided hair. Some hair jewelry was made not as mourning ;however, this brooch featuring the black rim, I strongly feel is a mourning piece. It is a tiny brooch and could almost be worn by a young child and measures 1" across. Circa 1850. It is in very good condition consistent with age and use.
