Miniature Coach Maker's Fluting Plane

Here is a wonderful example of a rare, figured maple coach maker's fluting plane. The diminutive size, 3 1/2" by 3/4" sole and a 4 7/8" total length with the tail, is rare as well. The plane was made to cut a small flute, in a fixed distance from a stopped edge.

The condition of the plane and wedge is excellent. The simple iron has some loss at the top and rust damage along it's length.

I fell in love with the great patinated surface of the curly maple. This is a nice plane for the display shelf or fashion a new fluting iron and it is in working condition again.
