This trammel is a venerable tool used to draw large circles or to mark off distances on a work piece. The trammel is comprised of two movable heads on a beam. Each beam can be moved and secured by a set screw. The bottom of each trammel comes to a point and is used to mark the work piece.
This set is nicely sand cast in brass with brass set screws. The points are cast iron and threaded into the trammel head. Each trammel is 7" tall by 2 3/8" wide and 3/4" thick. The contemporary beam is in curly maple and measures 17" long.
The trammel heads are nicely designed with cut-outs on both sides. The trammel set is large and was likely used for large scale woodworking such as ship building or architecture.
