I have been a woodworker most of my adult life and early in my education I found a number of books by Frank Gottshall to be particularly inspiring. It turns out that Frank was a long time resident of Boyertown, PA. As a young man he was a designer for Wallace Nutting then took to writing books about woodworking and period furniture reproduction while teaching wood shop at Boyertown High School. In all, Frank wrote 17 books.
In 2012 I became aware of an estate sale at Frank's former residence in Boyertown. I got a chance to see his shop and bid on a number of tools that he used. I was fortunate to acquire his personal carving set which includes gouges, "V" parting tools, veiners, macaroni tools and a skew - all suitable for fine carving. I will be happy to furnish a complete list of the tools, if you have interest.
This is an assembled set and includes makers such as G. Maiers, Addis, Buck Brothers and Keen Kutter (Simmons Hardware, England). Four are unmarked and one is handmade. I have put these gouges in a new tool roll and included a first edition copy of his book "Wood Carving and Whittling for Everyone" published in 1977.
Here is your chance to own (and use) a piece of woodworking history.
