"Pedaling Man" Early Advertising Whirligig

Here is a wonderful early 20th Century advertising whirligig of a pedaling man towing a "sail" or board. We understand these were originally sold as a kit and unpainted. Shop keepers and business owners would buy the kit and paint the whirligig including information about their business on the "sail". They were displayed in front of their establishment to attract attention.

The front part of the whirligig, the pedaling man and the propellor, measures 18" front to back and 27" tall. The "sail" was missing so we improvised with a piece of plywood, 18" by 24". The original "sail" would have been about this size but of sheet metal. On the stand the whole thing measures 49" tall.

As you can see, we couldn't resist putting our advertising on the replacement "sail." The stand is old but not original to this piece. It will be easy enough for you to customize it to your taste by painting over this information or substituting an old piece of advertising you own.

The pedaling man (made of zinc) and propellor are in original condition and in good working order. There are traces of the original paint remaining.

This is just one of those folk art pieces from the 1920's or 30's that make you smile.

Because of the size and complexity of this piece we will quote crating, shipping and insurance costs at the time of your interest. We offer personal delivery within 100 miles of Philadelphia and in New England in conjunction with our travels.
