We like this bank for its workmanship and simple yet effective inlay The wood is a nice mahogany with boxwood inlay. The simple banding and diamond escutcheon around the coin slot are nicely executed and visually pleasing.
The box is very nicely dovetailed and the top is glued in place. The bottom is attached with brass screws which may not be original. It measures 7 1/4" wide by 5 1/8" deep and 3 5/8" tall.
The bottom has a number of notations. Clearly visible is the name Celia Godfrey with a second line that is not clear. A second notation carries the numbers. 4.15.6 possibly a date, followed by November 2? 19??. This date may be 1906. The construction and surface would support an early 1900 date.
