Watchmaker's Cabinet

It is extremely difficult to find early cabinets of this quality. The combination of walnut and birds eye maple, in a natural finish, is wonderful and the design and workmanship are equally impressive. Note the graduated drawers both horizontally and vertically. They graduate in width from 14 1/2" to 6" and in height from 1 15/16" to 3 3/16". This makes for a most pleasing look. Overall the case is 31 1/2" wide by 11 1/2" tall and 8 7/8" deep.

The case is made from single walnut boards and finely hand dovetailed top and bottom. The drawers have walnut sides and backs with birds eye maple veneered fronts. The drawers are also finely dovetailed both front and back. Four drawers are divided to hold smaller items, so it is likely this cabinet was made for a specific use. The secondary wood is pine (drawer bottoms, back and bottom).

The diminutive knobs are turned walnut. It looks as though 4 have been replaced in kind.

The piece came to us with brass hanging hooks, but we don't believe it was originally made to hang. More likely it sat on a craftsman's bench and held his precious tools and materials.

We can't say enough about the quality of this piece. We hope the photos do it justice.
