Early Wooden Maple Sugar Mold with Dolphin Motif

We found this mold and fell in love with the hand carved dolphins (6 of them on each half). We liked it so much that we bought some molding material and proceed a few examples so you can see what the finished product looks like. The molded dolphins are shown in a number of the attached photos.

Each mold half measures 11 3/4" long by 1 5/8" tall and 11/16" thick. The wood is a hardwood, likely maple. The fish are hand carved which is evident from there slight variations in each mold. The mold halves have a slight warp which I was able to overcome by clamping them up when molding the sample fish.

We suspect this mold dates to the late 19th century as the dolphin theme was popular during the Victorian era. The stand is modern and for ease of display. It is included with the mold.
