Diminutive 19th Century Brass Footman

We were quite taken with the wonderfully small size of this fireplace footman. Both its size and material suggest it was used to keep the teapot hot. At just 8 1/2" wide by 6 7/8" deep and 5 1/2" tall, it is decidedly smaller than its iron cousins used for the heavy cast iron pots and cookware.

The top is cast brass in a light and fancy symmetric pattern with a row of closely placed circles on each end worked by hand after the casting. The turned legs have an appealing vase-like form. Simple brass stretchers support each of the ends.

The condition is excellent with no losses and no repairs. This is a great looking piece that will grace any fireplace setting.
