Early Oak Board for Hanging Wild Game
The wood is oak. What caught our eye was the compass decorations used in conjunction with the hooks to make a more interesting piece that is normally very utilitarian. Both the carpentry work on the board and the non-symmetrical compass designs have a charming rustic simplicity to them.
The board originally had tabs on either end likely to hang on the wall. The ends have broken out the the intent is visible. The board does not appear to have ever been painted or finished although we suspect it was oiled in the early days. Modern saw-tooth picture hangers were added to the back to facilitate display. The board measures 32" wide by 7 1/2" tall and is 1" at its thickest point.
