Here is a wonderful, early hanging cupboard in its crusty first paint.
The single door cupboard 20" wide by 19 3/4" tall and 11" deep. With the back and sides that extend below the cabinet, the overall height is 34 1/2".
It is nicely designed and made. The door is a single board with breadboard ends top and bottom. The single board sides extend below the cabinet in graceful cyma curves. The interior has 5 vertical dividers with well proportioned cupid's bow cut-outs in their centers.
We suspect this cabinet came out of an early business and was used to hold ledger or account books. The cabinet must have hung in a corner as the left side was never painted.
There is considerable paint loss consistent with age but this only enhances the look of this piece. It is possible this cabinet did not have a back originally and this one is an early addition.
We really like the form, color and age of this piece.
