Antique Victorian complex faux tortoise picture frame pair - popular from 1860 to 1875 - probably walnut - mitered corners - two layered and multi-channeled - channels in faux tortoise, black, white (faux ivory ?) and with a gilded liner. Overall size (from outside edge to outside edge) is 15 3/8" x 13 1/4" - depth is 2 3/4". Opening size is 9 5/8" x 7 1/2". Rabbet is 10 1/8" x 8" with a depth of 1/4". Frames are without glass. All surfaces appear to be original with age appropriate wear - small chips, scratches and crazing with one larger chip at top corner of right frame (see pictures).
