Vintage print of a Salmon by William B. Gillette in full color. Signed in the plate "W.B.Gillette", the print appears to be a "tipped in" book illustration. I have been unable to come up with a title or publication date, but the printing process and paper used suggest a date prior to 1950. Overall page size is 11" x 8 1/4", with the image measuring 9" by 5 5/8". Condition is very good with a little wear and toning around the edges - several very light creases in the border areas - some age toning on the reverse, especially around the edges. Any flaws would be covered when matted and framed.
William B. Gillette (1864-1937) - Born in Nova Scotia , but considered to be an American artist, W.B. Gillette is closely associated with New York state. He was a well known watercolorist and etcher of wildlife, especially fish, game birds, and marine life. His original works are very desirable and frequently turn up at current auctions. Reproductions of his work provide illustrations for many natural history type books.
