Victorian Swiss Waist or Corselette in Black Velveteen

This wonderful Civil War era 1860's Swiss Waist comes from my personal collection. It was constructed in a black cotton velveteen which has held it's color quite nicely. The interior is flat lined in the brown polished cotton, typical of the time. There is a combination of baleen and steel boning hidden in the casings. Six baleen bones along the front and back seams and four steel bones at the center front and center back. (due to a split in one of the bodice seams, I was able to photograph the baleen.) The interior is edged in a black silk taffeta. It laces up both the front and back with a simple black cord with metal tips. The interior exposed seams are hand finished and the trim is hand applied.

Condition: Good. Due to the age of this piece, I am leaving the decision repairs and restoration to the new owner. There are two splits in the seams, both shown in photos. The fabric is unharmed. There is one small 3/8" split to the fabric at the armhole. Also photographed. The cord shows typical signs of wear and one of the metal tips is hanging by just a few threads. The interior taffeta binding on the edges also shows wear. The steel boning pokes through the bottom of the wear's right left at center front.
