ca. 1950's Black Velveteen Dress with Bolero Jacket
The fabric is a very nice black cotton velveteen cut nap down. The silhouette is New Look with princess seams at the bodice extending down into a very full skirt with no seam at the waist. No fabric was spared on this beauty. The dress fastens with a metal zipper down the side seam and has pockets set into the side seam. The front and back of the bodice are cut to a low "V" line and each shoulder fastens with brass hook and ring hardware. The neckline and armholes are trimmed with a sweet daisy embroidered velveteen edging. The seams are cut and unfinished but show no signs of ware or fray. The hem is finished with hem tape. the neck line and armholes are finished clean with the edging.
A matching Bolero jacket or shrug was cut to go with this dress. It is cut with no shoulder seams giving the silhouette of a rounded shoulder and again using a maximum amount of fabric for such a short jacket. There is a 1" pleat at each shoulder adding to the fullness of the bust and the center back is cut to a point at the waistline accentuating a slim waistline. It is fully lined in a black synthetic and trimmed in the embroidered velveteen daisies from the dress.
This a classic party dress that will remain a favorite in your closet and is always in style.
Condition: Excellent. I have not had this cleaned but there are no strong odors and it seems to be pretty clean.
