ca. Early 1950's French Couture Velvet and Tulle Evening Gown from Claire Comte
Claire Comte was a high end shop in Paris, located at 17 Boul. des Capucines. I was able to find a few ads from the early 1940's in the French magazine L' Officiel de la Couture et de La Mode. Judging by the silhouette of this dress, it would appear that the shop survived the war.
Labels: Claire Comte, 17 Boul. des Capucines, Paris
Condition: Very Good. This gown is strong sturdy and ready for wear. I have not had it cleaned but there are no odors. There are a few minor blemishes. The is one small about 1 x 1" section at the bust where the velvet has been smashed by the hanger. I did steam it and it came back quite a bit, but a subtle mark does remain. There are a few scatted holes in the tulle on the skirt and the shawl. They get get lost in the fullness when worn, but they are present. (see photos)
