It is not completely understood as to why Etling decided to use `Verlux' as a signature to many of their glass patterns, however just as Sabino quite often signed their pieces `Vernox' for example, it is thought to be to compete with the success of the popular works being produced by Verlys during the 1930s in France.
I am sure that you will agree that just of these exquisite Art Deco greyhound figurines is quite something, but 10 of them are very special indeed, and even more so, particularly at this current Sale Price...
Glass knife rests were popular items for the high upper classes during the 1930s, particularly in France. These items were high cost when produced and their value has not wavered. As display items alone they are a sensation when grouped together for example, or as individually displayed in various locations. I have often used these items as charming little supports for glass bowls and they are ideal for the purpose without any likelihood of damage when suitably placed.
Of course their intended use is as knife/fork/spoon rests at a dinner table, and who could not be enchanted by their presence at one your special occasions of invited guests.
The greyhound was a much favoured animal within the arts during the Art Deco period. It appeared on all manner of items, from metal sculpture to pottery etc. The greyhound represented streamlined speed and its image was beautifully portrayed by the artists of the time. Here, each greyhound is completely outstretched and racing at top speed above crystal `waves' of stylized foliage. They have each also been afforded with rectangular moulded crystal plinths which are integral to each piece and offer complete stability.
The quality of Etling items has at all times been firmly established. Founded in Paris France at 29 Rue Paradis, circa 1909, Edmond Laurent Etling, used only the very high-class & top freelance designers of the period to adorn his shop with the most incredible objects of the era, from sculpture to glass, Etling embraced some of the most important designing artists of the 20th century.
Each one of these knife rests is signed in moulded relief and each one is in mint pristine condition. It would prove a very difficult task to locate a finer set of TEN for your investment... Even more-so at this ridiculously low 'Give-Away' price.
