Although unsigned or maker marked, the provenance of this piece is sacrosanct, in as much that it is French and from the 1930s. I have also seen this pattern bowl in smoky-grey glass and signed in cursive script: FAINS FRANCE, and also as a comport with a chrome metal base, which belongs to a French collector. (please see my photographs of this example)
Fains-la-folie, is South West of Paris and a short distance from Choisy-le-Roi, however this piece cannot be attributed accurately to having been produced there, though it is a possibility. Pieces which have been signed Fains, are not dissimilar to certain patterns produced by Schneider, but again this is only an observation and is not to establish the attribution of this piece, however it still remains a gorgeous example of authentic French Art Deco glass.
As is typical, all of the moulded decorative features of this bowl are to its underside. The hexagonal base has been moulded intaglio with stylized daisies which have then been matt-satin frosted, which glisten & sparkle through the polished interior of the bowl. Further features are the frosted glass panels which been moulded concave and interposed with convex translucent ribs of moulded glass.
It is in fine condition with no chips or cracks. There are just a few minor scratches of age related wear, mentioned for accuracy of description however they do not detract from the beauty of this piece. It's a lovely French Art Deco glass bowl for your collection...
