This is a scarce and desirable piece by Josef Inwald – Rudolfshütte glassworks Czechoslovakia c1930s.
It is the `Leaves' pattern bowl catalogue No. 11458. It uses blue opalescent glass to perfection, and the mouldings are crisply defined. All of the mouldings are to the underside of the bowl, three of which provide a tripod of feet which raises the piece to allow optimum light penetration from beneath. The glass `dances with light' when it is viewed from above and the results are truly delightful.
Josef Inwald, Elsahütte, Rudolfshütte and many other glassworks in the Czech Republic later combined and united circa 1945 to become more known as: Sklo Union glass, however this piece pre-dates the above. Not all Inwald pieces are signed or maker marked, however this particular piece has a stencilled mark beside one of the leaves: Czechoslovakia
There are no chips, cracks or flea-bites to the glass. Mentioned here for accuracy, are the minor scratches to the interior which are solely due to use and do not detract. The bowl is in excellent condition for your collection and its value is destined to grow.
