Rene Lalique Model 3104 Pissenlit Intaglio Moulded Glass Bowl c1921

It is incredible to know that Rene Lalique was well into his 50s before he produced his first ever press moulded glass vases & bowls, and that he was aged 61 years when this particular bowl was introduced circa 1921

It is the `Pissenlit' (Dandelion) pattern, which was available in a wide variety of sizes & colour types, as separate items to complete sets of 12 or more, including plates, slavers and crescent-shaped dishes. `Pissenlit' was an instant success, just as all other glass produced by the undisputed Master of 20th century.

It is not only the designs themselves which captivate and draw our eyes to the works of Rene Lalique, but also to the absolute quality of the glass itself and the refinement of finish to every single piece.

This bowl for example displays characteristics which are seldom to be found upon items produced by any competing factory of the period, in terms of accomplishment using press moulded glass techniques.

The exterior of the bowl, from its central underside, has been decorated with an almost interlocking pattern of dandelion leaves in crisply defined intaglio mouldings. All traces of moulding lines have been removed by fire-polishing whilst the glass was still hot, and then again by wheel polishing once the bowl had annealed and cooled. These are time consuming and expensive working procedures even today, however one would not expect anything less with glass that is signed by R LALIQUE... This is a quality piece of glass with a capital `Q'

The decorative features has also been matt-satin frosted and then highlighted with sepia patina.

There were very few glass designers/makers other than Rene Lalique, who could make a simple dandelion leaf look beautiful. He could take almost anything from say insects, a piece of weed or a simple shape and develop it into something truly special. Such was the genius of the man...

Sooner, rather than later, is the right time to invest in pieces such as this and one thing is safely sacrosanct when purchasing R Lalique:

You will adore & cherish it for every moment whilst its value continues to grow...
