This is an adorable piece by D'Avesn. It is almost surreal in its design and looking at it closely one can see this master genius experimenting with all manner of shapes & styles to hone his craft as an incredible glass designer of the Art Deco period.
Pierre D'Avesn was just 19 years of age when he designed this remarkable piece and so advanced was his understanding of glass as a working medium that no other than Rene Lalique allowed him the freedom to design numerous items bearing his name.
This bowl, achieves moulded glass which appears to be cut or carved in cameo. The lines of each decorative motif are exceptionally defined and very crisp. 'Cubist' crescent moons, cloud formations, star-shapes, stylized birds and `who-knows-what-else' have been arranged upon the base of the bowl with a contradictive haphazard precision. Each theme is separated and they stand proud from the bowl as opposed to being a uninformed image of say flowers, birds or other subjects for example. The result provides a bowl design that is not only remarkable but also unique. There are no other pattern types quite like it, by any maker.
The richness of colour on this piece is also sensational. D'Avesn frosted butterscotch glass is almost `EDIBLE' in its appearance, just as toffee... It is sublime and like no other.
The condition is immaculate in its presentation. There is a thin moulded line (caused during the manufacturing process) which is noticeable if the bowl is held up towards light, however there are no cracks, chips or flea-bites. It is in mint pristine condition for your collection...
