1930s French Modernist Art Deco Aqua Blue Glass Comport by Etling

This comport is unsigned which is not out of the ordinary for many glass items produced by many a known maker, however the pairing of glass with other materials during the Art Deco period in France, can be best associated with works that were produced for Etling, and this pattern bowl is recorded as having been produced for them. It is the Écureuils (squirrels) pattern, produced during the 1930s in Art Deco Modernist style.

As can be noted from my photographs, this comport is an item of quality, which has been predominantly decorated with pairs of `feasting' squirrels.

The glass has been moulded faultlessly, with an impressive wall-thickness & crisply defined decorative mouldings which are further signs of good quality. The juxtaposition of the transparent glass squirrels for example, against a background of faux frosted ice-glass, has been portrayed with absolute precision. The mirrored images of the stylized squirrels, produces a wonderful series of `scrolls' by incorporating their fluffy-tails which adds to the visual expanse of this highly decorative piece. It is a triumphant design which has been propelled even further by the addition of its chrome metal base.

The condition of this rarity is fabulous. There are no chips, cracks flea-bites or damage repairs to the glass. The stepped chrome metal base is also in remarkable condition and without any dents or corrosion, but with age related wear as one would expect from such a piece that was produced over 80 years ago...

I would kindly urge you not to allow this chance to pass you by. This pattern, in any colour variety is getting scarce. They disappear into collections where they then remain. The gorgeous glass colour of aqua blue used for this example, makes it a desirable piece for your collection.
