August Walther established his glass works in c1888 at Ottendorf-Okilla, Dresden, Germany. Later producing the most outstanding Art Deco quality moulded glass designs ever produced (many of which are currently available here in my shop) and one incredible example for your collection is this fabulous Rotterdam pattern Lamp Base & Shade.
I have received numerous enquiries since my previous example of this lamp was sold and so I would kindly urge you not to allow this one to pass you by...
This complete lamp with its original shade is scarce and even more so using the most desirable qualities of Uranium Green glass in its formation.
The Walther glass shade alone (when & if available) exchange hands for anything between $90 - $180 USD and as for the lamp shade fittings, they are almost impossible to locate as separate items.
The two pre-moulded holes (which accommodate the lamps wiring) have been punched through and so can be adapted for use to suit all international electrical systems.
Please note that I have used several photographs for display purposes only, to show you the amazing qualities of this wonderfully designed glass and to provide you with size & scale. This listing is for The Uranium Green Lamp, Shade & Fitment complete as described.
The lamp base itself first appeared in Walther catalogues as a stand-alone piece which could either be used as a candlestick or as the base for a comport. The mould was then later adapted to provide the two holes in order to make use of the piece as a lamp, when the requirement of such items became the latest vogue during the 1930s. The lamp shade is the correct pattern for this piece and has also been moulded using uranium glass. The qualities of this are amazing. It has a vibrancy all of its own and yet it is propelled into a further visual dimension when lit with UV black light. It is no small wonder as to why this glass is collected and admired worldwide, as my photographs will perhaps demonstrate.
The lamp base is completely free of any damage. There are no cracks, chips or flea-bites to the glass and it is in excellent condition. As can be seen, the lamp shade has damage to its lower rim, however this does not detract once it is attached to its fitting and the securing screw-fitments keep the shade stable and held into place. These original lamp shades are becoming harder to find and so for this lamp to have one at all is a blessing. This is a golden opportunity for you to acquire this rarity and it has been priced accordingly.
I will, if I may, allow my photographs of this outstanding example of Art Deco glass by Walther and Sohne, to speak for themselves...
