The Art Deco styling of this piece is exceptionally striking. It is a sculpture of serenity and one of beauty which manages to capture much movement and interpretation. It is a real `Show Stopping Piece' with an eye catching appeal that is timeless.
It also displays a quality as is testimony to such Art Deco items as this.
It was produced at Limousin in France, using 4 different colour types of semi-precious hard stones: Italian Portorro gold & black marble with white onyx intersections, have been used to edge each side. The two swans, swim upon a pool of Empedor marble, whilst the lady sits upon a green marble plinth.
There are no chips to the stonework and the metal castings have no missing parts, corrosion, dents or splitting. These bronzed spelter items should never be polished. A light dusting is all that is required and to polish this piece would destroy the wonderful aged patina built-up through time which cannot be replicated.
I do not interfere with items of vintage and so I have not removed any metal parts to locate signatures if existent, however this sculpture is known to be an original Limousin piece.
Limousin, is not a maker name, but an area of central France where these sculptures were produced during the Art Deco period. It is not uncommon for these works not to be signed in anyway. Some carry marks upon the marble, whilst others may be evident upon the metal components but this not always the case. The `signatures' of this piece are the two swans and the ladies decorated dress which are features as used by Limousin.
Black & gold enamelling has been used to decorate the lady's dress and white enamel for her hair, face & hands, all of which is in fabulous original condition. The wing tips of each swan have also been highlighted with copper lustre.
A lovely little touch is the addition of a wonderfully detailed bronze dove upon the Lady's hand. The sculpture has been loosely termed by collectors as being an Art Deco representation of Leda & The Swan.
The entire piece presents itself with outstanding levels of detailing and refinement. It was not a low cost item at item of manufacture and it was aimed towards the rich society of the period, as can be seen...
... It is simply gorgeous and makes for more than just a wonderful display in any interior setting... This is an investment piece for the connoisseur collector of quality Art Deco items or for the admirer of Art Deco wonderment... You will cherish this piece each and every moment, I can assure you.
