Beautiful 1930s French Art Deco opalescent glass bowl by Ezan. Signed

Ezan are perhaps best known for their production of Art Deco opalescent glass table lamps, wall sconces and chandeliers which are predominantly formed as `waterfall' and or `fountain' pattern, and many fine examples were produced. However, Ezan vases and bowl patterns are not as common and very few pattern types were produced.

Very little historical information about Ezan exists, though it is known that they were based in Paris France during the Art Deco period of the 1930s either as a factory or as a high class retailer, much the same as Etling for example.

It cannot be ruled out that Ezan glass was produced at Choisy-le-Roi, where the finest quality of French opalescent glass of its era was produced. It only takes one look at the opalescent glass by Ezan, to know that it is a glass of undeniable quality and is `up there' with the likes of Etling, Verlys, and even Lalique.

Sabino for example, are thought to have purchased several Ezan moulds, one of which reputedly was of this bowl, though Sabino removed the inside decorative feature of the bird nest as is displayed upon the center this piece... I am as yet to see an example, but they are supposedly recorded. One thing that is undeniable however, is the luxurious quality of opalescence that was achieved by Ezan, to produce this beautiful piece of glass, as it displays more than just a few of the characteristics that are associated with this glass type ...

... This bowl, displays a richness of colour depth, which continuously fluctuates within a spectrum of creamy-blues, golden-whites and hints of purple. It is a beautiful work of art using glass as a working medium and its moulded decorative features are also sublime ...

Three pairs of finches have been depicted in thickly raised relief. They encircle the bowl upon its outside above a stylized nest to the bowl centre. Each bird has been finely defined with exacting detail. Their feathers for example have been meticulously represented and their facial expressions provide this piece with much charm and naturalistic movement. It is an opalescent glass bowl with endless eye-catching appeal and a charm that is captivating.

The condition of this piece is also excellent and first class. There are no chips, cracks flea-bites or other defects and the so it is in pristine mint condition for your collection.
