HUGE 14" Diameter1930s French Art Deco Opalescent Glass 'Les Pavots' Charger Bowl by Verlys

The factory formed in France during c1931 and quickly established itself by drawing inspiration from the glass of Rene Lalique. Verlys did this well and they achieved outstanding examples of glass of the same parallel to many works by Lalique, in terms of opalescent quality coupled with design.

Many glass patterns produced by Verlys were designed for them by same designers as used by Lalique. Pierre d'Avesn for example free-lanced between both glass producers.

Introduced during the 1930s as Les Pavots number 1121 this is one of the most beautiful of designs presented by Verlys and uses one of the more desirable colours produced by the factory. Opalescent.

It is a large and impressive bowl centrepiece and the incredible mouldings of stylized poppies & foliage have been meticulously detailed with breath taking quality. The varying degrees of glass thickness to each flower head, provides beautiful optic effects of milky-gold & creamy-blue opalescence to the glass. It for ever changes through these hues, subject to its position and light source.

As with many such pieces, Verlys have incorporated the pattern design to provide feet for the bowl, which raises it to allow for optimum light penetration from beneath. It is a stunning work of opalescent glass and is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks or flea-bites. You will not be disappointed with this piece. It is absolutely stunning. . .
