Smoked Amber Tint Glass 1930s Art Deco 'Skyscraper' Vase by Val Saint Lambert - LUXVAL Scailmont, Belgium.

Val Saint Lambert (VSL) was founded in c1826 in Belgium, and by c1928 had 5000 employees producing as many as 160,000 items each day, 75% of which were for export. VSL is well known for its acid etched & Art Nouveau glass pieces, however in c1935 VSL also launched a full line of pressed glass items under the name of Luxval, which mostly consisted of vases & bowls in the Art Deco style, and this vase is such an example.

The `skyscraper' form & shape of this piece captures the Art Deco style with abundance. Its hexagonal stepped base and tiered geometrically shaped body presents a vase with instant eye-catching appeal. The vase was produced at the VSL factory at Scailmont in Manage, Belgium. It has a moulded maker mark to its underside base: FAIT EN BELGIQUE (meaning Made in Belgium)

The vase colour of smoked-amber tint is relatively uncommon, and as such it makes a refreshing addition to a collection, or indeed as a stand-alone piece of interior display.
