TEN Vintage Venetian Salviati Murano ruby glass 10" Façon de venise wine goblets.
Just one of these is a joy... Here I am offering a complete set of ten, of the most incredible free-blown drinking glasses produced using ruby crystal and 24ct gold aventurine. It would prove a very difficult task to locate a finer set than this being offered anywhere. They are a marvel.
They were produced at one of the finest and most important glass making factories of all time, at the Societa Anonima Perazioni Salviati & Co. Murano, Italy., the very epicentre of quality free blown glass of incomparable excellence.
Several artists often worked combined to produce complex items such as these. The stems for example being free-blown & formed in readiness for the master glass blower to attach each at the precise moment as required. There is little room for any error when producing two or more set piece components, and although there will be subtle differences, each drinking glass will be of exact same size, weight and height as is humanly possible. The accomplishment that is achieved here with this set of TEN almost defies belief...
The drinking bell to each glass has been patterned inside and out with rigadin ritorto. The working process to obtain this pattern involves blowing the molten ruby glass into a bronze mould which has grooves with a triangular cross-section. The piece thus becomes ribbed and can also be twisted inside the mould to produce a swirl or twisted ribbing. The foot of each piece has been similarly patterned and have been folded to their rims with perfection. All of the goblets have unground & unpolished pontil marks to their foot centers.
The stylized swans which have been used to provide stems for each glass are almost a trademark of Salviati. They (and also dolphins) have appeared on all manner of items produced by the factory. From candlesticks, comports, lamps & chandeliers, these fantastical glass creatures makes this glass instantly recognisable. They also (in the main) display the same characteristics as having flecks of real gold (aventurine) hollow formed bodies, and almost `animated' grinning faces... They are exceptionally eye-catching and appealing.
Ruby glass (or 'Rubino Oro' as it is known by Venetian glass workers) is heavy in weight for its size, due to the addition of gold oxide, produced by dissolving the gold in a solution of hydrochloric acid nitric acid and (aqua regia). It is a costly glass to produce and subsequently so too were this set of ten at time of manufacture.
These remarkable survivors are in mint pristine collection. There are no chips, cracks, nicks or repairs and they are as perfect examples of their type as you are probably ever likely to see being offered at this current sale price... Do not let them pass you by.
