1930s German Art Deco Uranium Glass Vase by Brockwitz.

This is a desirable vase by Brockwitz, and one of their finest in terms of its design and collective interest. It is a beauty.

Brockwitz, Germany, were one of the most prolific glass factories of their era, and their glass far exceeded practical use. All Brockwitz designs are innovative, distinctive and of exceptional quality. Boldness of artistic design matched with quality placed this factory amongst the leading exponents using press moulded glass techniques.

Vases such as this pattern are far and few between. Seldom are they seen outside of private hands or being offered, as the moulds for these pieces were destroyed during WWII. Art Deco period examples are scarce, in any colour...

The vase featured as a drawing within the Brockwitz factory catalogue of c1936 as pattern number: 6929. It has no name as such, but has been termed within collective circles as the `Parrot Handled Vase.' It is also believed to have been designed by Freidrich Sheiner, and what a tremendous design it truly is...

Two star shapes of solid glass provide a perfect base for the vase, which are seen to mirror the vertical mouldings of Art Deco chevron patterns upon the body of the piece, which in turn culminate to provide a wonderful top rim. Take away the handles and we are still presented with a vase of wonderful proportions and style, but of course it is the handles that propel this piece into a world of its very own... They are a marvel, as to why this vase is so desirable & appealing.

Be they a pair of parrots or a pair of budgerigars, both have been portrayed beautifully using glass, whilst also providing the vase with a means of being carried during intended use, for floral displays. Brockwitz, never forgot about use for their items and their glass is substantial without compromise of design.

CONDITION REPORT: My photographs form the major part of describing this vase, which as can be seen cannot hide. This vase has suffered from a chip of 5cms to its base. This does not interfere with the stability of the vase, however I have reflected this damage in the offer price. It is a fabulous Brockwitz piece which shall never disappoint the discerning collector & admirer of Art Deco press moulded glass, which was produced by one of the most important glass factories of their era...
