The serious collector of works by Sabino will instantly recognise these 4 trays as being original pieces from the 1930s which were specifically produced for the French marketplace.
Their pattern type is not particularly uncommon however as an original set from the 1930s, they are very much indeed scarce to be found, even just one.
The `Oyster Shell' pattern trays were produced in two sizes: A small 5.75 inch example and the larger 7 inches tray, which is by far the more desirable. Both (of the ORIGINALS) are highly sought after items by Sabino, however these large examples are by far the more valuable & pursued. USA produced copies from original Sabino moulds of this large pattern, currently retail from upwards of £100 GBP each - $161 USD all of which have been produced since c1978...
It should be noted that Sabino glass is signed in variety of ways, which in the main is dependent upon certain criteria: The item itself and its intended country/point of sale...
Early items are marked in two ways: `Sabino Paris' when intended for sale only within France and `Sabino France' when intended for export. Many larger items will also carry a `Sabino Paris' mark etched in script and usually to the bases of such pieces.
There are two further signatures that were used by Sabino, and very briefly upon certain items that were produced c1925 - c1930 only: `VERNOX' and `VERART.' It is recorded that both of these Sabino signatures were developed & introduced to compete with the opalescent glass which was being produced by Verlys France during this period...
`Oyster Shells' were an incorporated popular design for Sabino. Bowls, plates, dishes and vases, were produced in a variety of sizes and all are desirable investment items. This set of 4 large Oyster Shell pattern trays are the earliest production by Sabino of their pattern type, produced solely for the French marketplace c1930s. Just ONE is a collectors' dream of a piece... and just one single dish has a current valuation which exceeds £100 GBP $161 USD
