Offered to you here in pristine mint condition is a fabulous box & cover produced by Sabino Paris. It is an early piece intended for sale within France only and carries molded signatures to both the lid and its box, in block capitals.
It is also the largest of its pattern type at 6.5 inches diameter and 2 inches in height.
**Les Ondines** is one of the most beautiful of opalescent boxes ever produced by Sabino. A trio of mermaids linked together by holding hands, are wonderfully depicted in molded relief within a background of ripples of water. As one would expect from one of the most accomplished glass factories of all time, the opalescent qualities of this piece are astounding.
No other glass producing factories of the period could rival the opalescent glass that was produced in France. From say Verlys, Etling, Sabino, Hunebelle, D'Avesn, Sevres and Rene Lalique, two factories would become the most prolific: Lalique and Sabino, and they are still considered as having been the best. Looking at this piece, it is not difficult to see why.
Sabino glass used more arsenic within its working medium to produce an opalescence of remarkable richness throughout the glass. Creamy-white & milky-golden blues, almost fluoresce upon this piece in ever-changing hues according to light conditions. It is also exceptionally tactile and it has an appeal that is timeless, together with being a very wise investment, particularly at this 'Give-Away' price...
When you purchase glass such as this, you are not spending money you are investing it whilst also being able to cherish an item of undeniable beauty...
