Far more than being my own personal opinion, this vase pattern is one of the most accomplished and best ever press moulded glass vases of the Art Deco period. Seldom, if ever, has its design been surpassed in terms of its style & captivating appeal.
These vase patterns by Walther & Sohne, still remain unsurpassed. Nothing comes close to its stylish design, within its affordability price range.
It is the Walther pattern: Schmetterling (butterfly) and as my photographs illustrate, it is an exceptionally creative double sided design of breath taking beauty.
The wonderful fan shape & six sided lozenge base, are not too dissimilar to the 'Windsor' pattern vases produced by Walther (please see my listing of a 'Windsor' pattern vase) however that is where the similarity ends...
...Both ladies upon the Schmetterling vase, are portrayed as if being butterflies with outstretched arms, which in turn then appear by metamorphism to become beautifully moulded glass stylized butterfly wings, to combine & intertwine with their Art Deco fashioned costumes, which are moulded to perfection.
Both butterfly-ladies are angled outwards to face you, as if about to lift-off and into flight. This is a glass vase, which achieves movement, combined with gracefulness and quality to the attention of detail.
The ways with which the ladies dresses, conform to their body as if flowing like wafer-thin chiffon for example, or the exquisitely detailed jewellery clasps & shoulder straps, to the enchanting facial expressions and the bed of stylized daisy flowers upon the base... ...Each have been crisply defined with a precision seldom seen upon Art Deco press moulded glass, but then again, such were the qualities of the glass produced by Walther & Sohne.
Nothing can prepare you for the physical presence of this piece and there is no other Walther vase which can compete with it. It is an awesome vase at an impressive 9 inches high, with a top diameter of 12 x 6.6 inches.
The addition of its original glass flower frog insert is also a benefit. These items so often suffer from un-repairable damage or simply get lost over time.
It is no small wonder as to why these vases are highly sought after by collectors and I am offering you good opportunity to acquire one to adore and to cherish. It is also a very wise investment piece.
The glass itself is a wonderful shade of peach which has been matt -satin frosted upon the lady figure, making the vase exceptionally tactile and ever more appealing to the eye.
The condition is excellent. The vase is virtually faultless. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. The flower-frog insert has some very slight nibbles to a few edges, but it remains a very worthy addition to the vase.
You will not be disappointed with this stunning example of German Art Deco press moulded glass. It is absolutely sensational.
