Here is a bottle that is exceptionally scarce. It is a further bottle which belonged to my late Mother, recently located by me in her dresser cabinet together with several others... She certainly adored wearing good quality parfum, however this piece retains most, if not all, of its contents.
Frustratingly for me is that there is no bottle labels upon this piece and neither was it boxed. I am also reluctant to remove what appears to be a seal beneath the bottle cap. It is made of some-type-of-rubber? And I worry in case I destroy it, whilst trying to remove it...
There is however certain information upon this piece which can establish and identify its maker, and its appearance can also point towards its age, as also can the quality.
The all metal cap has been finished with copper, and so would have been an expensive commercial bottle of its era. The glass bottle also displays a quality of crystal, used to produce this piece. Most importantly are the moulded marks in relief to the base of the bottle, in large block letter capitals: GRENOVILLE BOTTLE MADE IN FRANCE
The aforementioned `rubber' bung, which seals this bottle beneath its copper metal cap, is marked with: ERMETIC 12 Btle S.G.D.G.
Grenoville, 20 rue Royal, Paris, established c1879 and by the turn of the c20th were producing a range of luxury cosmetic products, many of which were far ahead of their time in terms of presentation design. Grenoville, received the highly esteemed Silver Medal award c1925, having by then become affiliated to the parfum house of Parfais, owners of Charny.
The bottles produced by Grenoville, during their relatively short-lived production time, are scarce. To locate one such as this example, as complete as it is, is rare.
