Crystal Glass Ashtray `Bird & Bouronne' by Lalique

It is perfection in crystal, and of the numerous figurative ashtray types produced in the round by Lalique it is also one of the tallest and the most intricately moulded.

Rather than to use intaglio & relief engraving upon a round disc of crystal, Lalique presents this piece crisply moulded & defined with thickly detailed decorative elements of design. It is the only designed ashtray that is pierced for example, which is a difficult moulding process. The wonderful halo/wreath of stylized leaves, form a beautiful frame for the central feature of this piece, a single bird in flight.

The wings of the bird, and also its tail feathers and its beak almost morph into the halo of leaves and the effect is quite simply sublime.
