Glass animal & fish studies have at all times been of desirable collective interest, as to why so many are still being produced. Even to this day, most major glass factories throughout the world offer a wide variety of sizes & styles to suit the requirements of today's discerning collector. Each study is relatively low cost and they provide an exceptional wise investment whist also enabling a collection to be quickly established. The additional advantage of these wonderful glass figurative items is that they are all unobtrusive in terms of the space that is needed to form a wonderful display within any interior setting...
... Here for your appraisal is one such piece: Cigogne héron (heron stork) by Sabino, a wonderful study using quality French opalescent glass.
This piece is classed as being medium size, however what is Large... What is Small?
This piece stands at 7.5 inches which for most glass bird studies by Sabino, is an impressive size indeed. It was also a complicated piece to produce with any degree of success.
It is a very brave piece to attempt using press moulded glass, and as with most birds and other animal studies, it can be noted that solid glass has been used to fill all areas such as those spaces & gaps between the legs of these pieces for example. This is not only to provide strength nor is it a decision that is taken lightly, but more a necessity if the piece is to be removed from its mould without any distortion to the glass.
I mention the above due the intricacy which has been afforded to the beak of this bird for example. It is the thinnest piece of glass noted upon this study, and as such is particularly susceptible to distortion of shape which would render the piece null & void if seen to be drooping or sagging once cooled. This feature alone makes `Cigogne héron' a remarkable achievement for a piece of its size.
The entire bird flows with naturalistic movement and it displays a formation that is timeless in terms of eye catching appeal using press moulded glass. It is quite simply sublime in its entirety.
By far easier and less time consuming to produce would have been a heron with its head pointing downwards, But this is a Sabino piece and Sabino throughout history push boundaries to produce moulded opalescent glass of breath taking beauty, style and technical achievement which places them ahead of most other glass factories of their genre.
Please do not think for one moment that moulded glass items such as this are churned out by the dozen, day in-day out. This is by far an exceptional piece by Sabino that has survived all of the complexities required to produce it. Cigogne héron, is relatively uncommon, and even today commands the respect and the desirability of what it represents: Sabino opalescent glass that has been finished to perfection...
... Do not allow this piece to pass you by at this asking price. You are not spending money you are investing it, and wisely ...
