This beautiful three part center piece display demonstrates the incredible achievements of Walther & Sohne, using press molded glass techniques during the Art Deco period of the 1930s.
It is the `Lukretia' pattern 47595 and she has been detailed with exceptional refinement using a beautiful shade of pastel blue glass with an additional luxurious finish of matt-satin frosting.
The glass flower frog in which she stands is the standard pattern: `figurenblock' 42362 which was used for a wide variety of center piece displays produced by this factory. The bowl pattern is `Pelikan,' which again could be purchased separately from a wide range of bowl types to suit individual requirement.
It is a fabulous bowl pattern by Walther, as it echoes the same pattern of the flower frog to provide a perfection of visual appeal. It is also a large and impressive bowl and its wonderfully molded glass feet add a further magnificent Art Deco feature to the overall design of this piece.
You may wish to make comparison to this bowl with others which are currently available here in my shop. Also available is a further example of a `Lukretia' pattern center piece using amber glass.
I would urge you look at all, if only to compare, for the glass as was fashioned & created by Walther & Sohne is without parallel, in terms of German press moulded glass of the era.
Walther glass center pieces make a statement, and each is an incredible work of art which all demand attention and `Lukretia' is just one such example. This is press molded glass to perfection...
Walther totally understood their working medium and they used quality of design coupled with skill, to achieve outstanding results to practically every single item that they produced during the Art Deco period. The various thickness of glass, combined with colour variations & finite detailing and stylized forms, display press molded glass beauty which is inarguably second to none, in terms of affordability without compromise to quality.
The central lady of this piece has been molded solid. Only her base is hollow, which is for good reason, for she catches & refracts light evenly throughout (like a fibre optic) to each of her delicately detailed features.
'Lukretia' is a glass lady with much gracefulness & movement, from the way she runs her fingers through her hair, to her facial expression of peaceful contemplation and her gossamer robe of chiffon which appears to flow in a garden breeze, whilst presenting to the viewer her collection of fruit & flowers...
Each and every detail has been faithfully captured, completely in the round and with fluency. She is breathtakingly beautiful as a lady alone, however when placed into her bowl, she becomes uplifting & magnificent.
August Walther established his glass works in c1888 at Ottendorf-Okilla, Dresden, Germany, until eventually during the 1930s he produced these remarkable works of Art Deco glass, to become beyond any doubt, one of the most important of all glass factories of its period.
The condition of this center piece is close to mint, save for the tiniest of nicks to one foot of the bowl which is mentioned for accuracy of description only and does not detract. The entire is in tip-top condition for your collection...
This is a desirable item indeed and your satisfaction is more than just guaranteed because 'Lukretia' by Walther & Sohne is a center piece which never fails to please.
She is simply gorgeous.
