1920s Art Deco Crackle Glaze Flapper Girl Sculpture attributed to Jean Fontinelle

This wonderful piece of pure Art Deco has been reliably attributed to Jean Fontinelle, however it is not signed. It was purchased by my late Mother, from Dunhill, London. The sculpture retains its original Dunhill retail label, however it is now long faded. I do not interfere with vintage items in any way and so the label remains in situ as is shown.

My photographs best illustrate the charm of this particular piece, and form the major part of its description. One could be forgiven to think of this sculpture as being one of two bookends, but it was purchased at time of manufacture as is.

Its intended use is as a stand-alone shelf display piece, displayed flat up against a wall, and positioned in this way its effects are quite special and has an eye catching appeal that is tireless.

The flapper girl sits in quiet contemplation and if only she could speak then her story would be known. She appears to be deeply lost in her own thoughts of a lost love perhaps or one which is about to blossom and to flourish, as she sits and stares into the distance.

Her dress, as can be seen, has been wonderfully modelled to radiate from behind using bold stepped fan shapes which culminate to form a stylized circle of pure Art Deco styling. She's a little gem of a piece which has a timeless delight wherever she is suitably placed.
