Iridescent Cold Painted Spelter & Marble ‘Footsteps’ Lady Sculpture. Art Deco Style After Lorenzl

Born in Austria, Joseph Lorenzl, 1872 – 1950 has earned his acclaim as one of the most talented and best known sculptors of the Art Deco period, specializing in bronze, spelter, carved ivory & pottery of lady figurative studies in various flirtatious poses, which epitomise the Art Deco era perfectly.

Lorenzl, inarguably a master craftsman, also designed for many famous firms of the period, names such as Hutschenreuther,Keramos and Goldscheider for example and his original works command high esteem amongst collectors, and as such they command high prices.

Lorenzl was inspired by the new found freedom of expression that women enjoyed during the hey-days of the roaring 1920s,and he managed to execute and to capture the period beautifully, both in bronze & ceramic with wonderful designs.

His inspirational works also inspired a generation of factories to produce reproductions for the mass market using less costly materials so as to supply the huge public demand, and even today this still continues to be the case as modern-day moulding methods & cold cast resins become accessible and acceptable to showcase the fabulous original representations by Lorenzl and other famous sculptors of the period, such as Chipparus and Preiss.

Here for your appraisal is a magnificent & faithful VINTAGE reproduction of an original sculpture by Lorenzl, and it has been crafted using quality materials throughout: Iridescent & cold-painted spelter metal upon a portoro marble base. It is undoubtedly a quality Lady sculpture and she has an appeal that is timeless.

She is one of the greatest of all Art Deco designs, her name is `The Walking Lady' and this vintage replica precisely captures the drama & seductive movement of the original by Lorenzl. She is a stunning beauty, frozen in time.

`The Walking Lady' is also an impressive size at 14.5 inches – 37cms high and with an oval base of quality portoro marble that is 6.5 x 3.5 inches oval and 2 inches thick.

Her lithe and almost androgynous body is both sensual & sinuous and she displays incredible movement from each and every angle whilst she tiptoes with gracefulness in front of your very eyes.

She is by no means understated, low-key or inconspicuous, as her slender toned body has been characterized in every way.

Over and above her charming presence, it is the attention to detail and the quality of finish of this piece which makes her so worthy and which is a continuous delight.

No expense has been spared to create this representation and she is as close to her original as one can get. Please make no mistake, she is not a modern-day copy made from resin, but a period endorsed & permitted replica of undeniable quality...

Naturally, no ivory has been used to carve her features, as not only was ivory already a banned material (and rightfully so, and should never be condoned) when this piece was produced, but also would have added to the cost. Her face has been sculptured from 'ivorine' (a celluloid equivalent) which has even been grained to give true ivory characteristics.

Her head has not been aged artificially and what you see is at least twenty five years of natural patina, for she has graced my late Mum's mantle shelf for many decades.

One thing which has been enhanced (and to her advantage) is the wonderful cold-painted bronze accents of iridescence to her flowing dress & dainty flat-soled shoes, which propel her yet again into a breath taking example of Art Deco sculpture for your collection.

Please study my photographs as they form the major part of the description of this wonderful piece. She is simply gorgeous...
