1930s English Art Deco Chrysanthemum pattern Uranium Green Glass Vase by Sowerby.
It has become known as being named as `Chrysanthemum' pattern and its design was registered as Rd 799041 on December 31st c1934.
Sowerby were inarguably one of the most accomplished & successful of all glass factories using press moulded techniques, since their foundation by John G. Sowerby, at Gateshead in England circa 1852. Their glass undoubtedly can represent the premier producer of pressed glass and were responsible for the introduction of numerous glass varieties: Blanc de Lait,Malachite and Ivory Queens Ware for example, which embodies the pinnacle of its pressed glass production during the Victorian era.
This Sowerby example from the Art Deco period also captures the era remarkably well. It uses a design which is unique in terms of its triangular form, and this particular example uses the amazing qualities of Uranium Green coloured glass to perfection, with accents of matt-satin frosting to each of the three floral panels which decorate the top section of the vase.
It should also be noted, that unlike most other English glass factories of its period using press moulded techniques that the green glass as was used by Sowerby, was not always enriched with uranium, however look at "THIS-Baby-Darling-of-a-Vase! It literally `hums' whilst it glows when subjected to UV black light, which once again propels this example into a totally new world of its own.
Art Deco geometrical `sunbursts' & `fan-shapes' of translucent glass, compliments the top design which is both appropriate and very eye-catching. Press moulded tripod feet have also been thoughtfully incorporated into the overall design so as to elevate the vase to allow for light penetration from beneath.
Not all,but occasionally, this pattern by Sowerby can be found to carry its Rd number, and as many as three times repeated on some examples, but again this is not always the case and as to why some do and some don't remains a mystery even to this day. They can also appear, upon the feet, the base of the vase, at its top and even inside of the vase itself.
This example carries its full Rd number: 799041 which is located upon the inside base.
This vase is one of two from my collection which are currently available here in my shop. The other example is listed separately and can be viewed to make comparison. It has been produced using Rose-Pink glass and is priced accordingly due to a damage repair. THIS green glass example however, is in pristine & mint condition for your collection and so its sale price obviously reflects this. There is not one single defect to this piece, not even to its feet which have also been grounded and do not show any signs of age related wear or bruising.
Seldom will you find a finer example of this pattern in this colour variant than this piece, and as such please appreciate that offers cannot be accepted for this particular vase as is price listed.
I am offering you this example, for a fraction of its true value and so this is an ideal & affordable opportunity for you to acquire one of these fabulously designed Art Deco vase types by Sowerby, using quality Uranium glass.
It is a worthy addition for your collection and a very wise investment piece for your appraisal. Its condition is MINT. You will not find flea-bites, nicks or even the slightest evidence of wear & tear to the feet of this vase... It has not one single blemish...
