1930s English Art Deco ` Chrysanthemum ' Flower Pattern Pink - Peach Glass Vase by Sowerby.
Sowerby were inarguably one of the most accomplished & successful of all glass factories using press moulded techniques, since their foundation by John G. Sowerby, at Gateshead in England circa 1852. Their glass undoubtedly can represent the premier producer of pressed glass and were responsible for the introduction of numerous glass varieties: Blanc de Lait,Malachite and Ivory Queens Ware for example, which embodies the pinnacle of its pressed glass production during the Victorian era.
This Sowerby example from the Art Deco period also captures the era remarkably well. It uses a design which is unique in terms of its triangular form, and this particular example uses rose-pink-peach coloured glass to perfection, with accents of matt-satin frosting to each of the three floral panels which decorate the top section of the vase.
Art Deco geometrical `sunbursts' & `fan-shapes' of translucent glass, compliments the top design which is both appropriate and very eye-catching. Press moulded tripod feet have also been thoughtfully incorporated into the overall design so as to elevate the vase to allow for light penetration from beneath.
Not all,but occasionally, this pattern by Sowerby can be found to carry its Rd number, and as many as three times repeated on some examples, but again this is not always the case and as to why some do and some don't remains a mystery even to this day. They can also appear, upon the feet, the base of the vase, at its top and even inside of the vase itself! This example has no such marks present anywhere, but once again this is not unusual for this pattern type.
What "IS" unusual perhaps, is the condition of this piece. We can all of us have `accidents' and I have to admit here that in the case of this piece,I rather carelessly dropped it,which resulted with one of the feet breaking off... I was therefore faced with one of three decisions: Throw it out in the trash-can (which to me would have been criminal!) have the vase professionally ground & re-polished to remove ALL of the feet totally (to be left with a vase with a flat base) or to use a specialist glass-adhesive which I had at my disposal, and is also permanently bonded by using laser technology, as is used within the glazing industry... I settled for the latter.
My own professional `repair' saved this vase, which as I am sure that you will agree was worth saving! Had this vase been round, then forget it, however due to its triangular shape (and as can be seen from my photographs) the repair does not interfere at all with its display or its stability... It interferes ONLY with its value and price as here offered. In perfect condition this vase can exchange for upwards of $250 USD (£162 GBP) even here on Ruby Lane, and they are worth every single dollar!
I am offering you this example, for less than half the above cost, which at $78 USD (£50 GBP) is an ideal opportunity to acquire one of these fabulously designed Art Deco vase types by Sowerby...
Furthermore, `sensible & reasonable offers' are also invited. I cannot be ANY FAIRER THAN THAT in this instance, and as a fully functional display piece as is found and as is shown, this vase is a worthy addition to my shop for your collection...
