Translucent Pink Glass 2 piece Flower Set by Sowerby, England, circa 1940s

Here for your collection is an enchanting two-piece flower set produced using translucent pink glass with matt-satin accents.

It was manufactured circa 1940, by one of the most historically important of all factories using press moulded glass techniques. Sowerby, England.

The Sowerby family began manufacturing glass as early as circa 1760 and by 1850 had created one the largest glass works in the United Kingdom, establishing themselves as one of the top market leaders of English press moulded glass.

Sowerby were innovators and producers of some of the most important of all pressed glass colour types & varieties, such as Malachite, Vitro-Porcelain and Slag glass for example and possessed 100s of worldwide patent patterns and glass manufacturing techniques. Sowerby, were a major force to be reckoned with and went on to produce amazing Art Deco period glass items in numerous sizes styles and forms.

Here for your collection is a beautiful example, which was introduced by Sowerby at the beginning of a new period of design... The 1940s'.

As one would expect, this flower set displays may of the qualities associated with Sowerby's complete understanding & working achievements to produce press moulded glass with a translucency & brilliance all of its own. It is not just the wonderful design, but also the pure clarity and excellence of the glass itself which makes Sowerby items particularly desirable and affordable, many of which are available here in my shop. You may wish to make comparison, so to note the vibrancy of their translucent coloured glass, for it is unlike any other.

This delightful two piece flower set, uses Sowerby pink glass to perfection. It is also quite a deceiving item using only photography, for this vase is a delightful & unobtrusive & 3 inches high.

The design of the vase, seems almost reluctant to let go of Art Deco, with its geometrically stylized feet and the wonderful flared rim.

It is a little gem.

Scarce, is the additional bonus of the glass lower frog, and few of this pattern type still retain them. They were also produced by Sowerby as separate items, however the marriage of this set is completely original and a very good survivor of its type. At a mere 1.5 inches, you can imagine just how many of these frogs have been lost and/or damaged during the last 72 years!

The condition of both items is excellent. The only mention are a few very minute nicks to the base section of the flower frog, which does not detract and cannot be seen when set into place, and is very minor for such a delightful piece. You will not be disappointed to cherish this fine 1940s English Art Deco example of press moulded glass by Sowerby, and it looks marvellous wherever it is suitably displayed and or used.

These vase flower set types do not show up often as complete.

Here is an ideal opportunity for you to acquire one such example which is both affordable and a very wise investment.
