This is a gorgeous three piece clock garniture for your appraisal.
It is a fabulous example of true vintage Art Deco styling & form using the period phenolic material: * Catalin.
The clock is in full working order and keeps perfect time and is an exception all of its own, however with the additional pair of candlestick holders it propels into a wonderful, unobtrusive statement of interior design.
The colour type is a stunning mottled Banda Rouge, which enables the ability to blend in within any interior display and surroundings. Its colour-type can best be described as being predominantly 'mahogany'
It is a beautiful Art Deco clock garniture and seldom found or offered as complete, and with its clock still working!
The clock has been formed & fashioned using the instantly recognisable `Napoleon Hat' style often used within the field of mantle clock design, however the design has been elevated into the period of Art Deco, with the very evident (but subtle additions) of 1930s influence, in terms of vibrancy of colour and angular/sunburst elements which have been incorporated onto the front of the piece.
The clock movement keeps perfect time and is in good vintage condition with no missing parts. The face of the clock is also is in super condition and without any corrosion to its metal and the clock numerals are crisply defined and un-faded. The clock glass is also without any damage or cracks and the entire is excellent throughout.
The additional bonus of the delightful pair of candle stick holders, transforms the clock into charming garniture which provides a desirable variety of display possibilities, and its modest size enables numerous displaying areas too.
There are no maker marks on the clock that I can locate, though I have made no attempt to dismantle it to look inside.
The candlesticks are also unmarked however there is a maker mark present within the hollow base of the clock.
*I am not an expert with this material and so I am only able to tell you what marks are present and how they appear.
The letters: SM "C" or SM "D" are enclosed within an oval, below which is a number "6"
I am sure that you will agree that this is a very charming Art Deco period clock garniture, at its probable best. You will not be disappointed to cherish this item or to add it to your collection for a wise investment...
*I have been advised that Bakelite items can be tested to establish the identity of the material, however I am unaware of any such tests and so this listing has been described in the best of good faiths. I am also grateful to Tony Wise, who has provided me with additional information, that this set is most probably made from Catalin.
That it is a vintage piece as described is unquestionable.
