Phenomenal German Art Deco Uranium Depression Glass Vanity Set / Trinket Set - By Walther & Sohne.
In terms of both design and quality using press moulded glass techniques, Walther leads the field. No other German glass factory produced such a wonderful variety of incredible figurative works of the Art Deco period, and one only needs to view other examples of their fabulous glass here in my shop, to see that this German factory was second to none of its period & style.
The press moulded glass designs produced by Walther are simply stunning.
The tray of this `set' is also one of the most desirable.
In later years c1936, candle stick holders and also a clock were eventually introduced, so as to form, if desired, a set, however each subsequent component item, could be and would be purchased as separates to the tray.
In collective terms, these beautifully designed items have become better known as `Pierrot & Pierette' due to the press moulded decorative feature of the stylized Art Deco harlequin man & lady upon the tray.
As with all of the magnificent figurative glass trays produced by Walther, the attention to detail is sublime with this pattern and is an item of exceptional quality of press moulded glass.
I urge you to study the undeniable movement that has been achieved, using intaglio foreground & background decorative elements to the underside of the glass.
`Pierrot' for example, sat and reclined whilst plucking the strings of a mandolin and singing to `Pierette' who stands behind, fanning her face, in an almost bashful appreciation.
In her hand she holds a single rose (yet another symbol of love) whilst she leans against a lamp light post which beams out with incredible Art Deco `sunburst' designing, as the stars remind us once again that this is scene of moonlit love.
The pure genius of Walther and the Art Deco designs that this German factory produced, are without parallel,in terms of press moulded glass quality at affordable cost circa 1936.
Walther & Sohne, totally understood the medium of glass using press moulding techniques and this wonderful pattern displays them all.
The varying depth to each and every feature has been captured with outstanding levels of working skill.
Walther, thought of everything when designing the tray piece alone, and one can note the very clever way with which the tray is raised from its intended surface, by the use of tiny polished areas, incorporated into the entire design...
..The vertical space between the lamp-post and `Pierrot' for example and the small diamond shape space between his bent leg, and other such transparent glass areas, each become a support to elevate the tray so to provide optimum light penetration for optic effect...
...And then, just look at the captivating beauty and the outstanding appeal of the fabulous pair of candlestick holders...
They were introduced by Walther, in 1936 to compliment the tray, and with their instant attractiveness and undeniable charm, they are inarguably one of the most fabulous of all Art Deco press moulded glass candlesticks, ever produced.
These sensational candlesticks echo the decorative features of the tray to perfection. The candle holders replicating the lamp-post; `Pierrot' sat and facing the viewer this time, whilst plucking a mandolin, and then `Pierette', sat reclined and again fanning her face with a graceful expression, and all moulded to an unequalled refinement using glass. The results are truly staggering as I am certain you will agree...
It is difficult to imagine anything being finer in terms of Art Deco press moulded glass design, with any component piece of this pattern, and in any colour, however the glass of Walther from this period, goes beyond just one stage further, by introducing evermore adorable and faithful additions to produce items to form an arrangement set, obviously Inspired by the undeniable beauty of their incredible `Pierrette Tablet' tray:
A smaller trinket tray of subtle insignificance though a most welcome and present feature, and then WOW, a fabulous LARGE powder pot which transforms these items into a collective set of ever-more outstanding beauty and everlasting appeal...
