Magnificent 1930s Art Deco Figurative Lady Sculpture with Bird of Paradise. Stunning.
Just as like a photograph of someone who we love but as in this case in the round and sculpturally present. She has graced my home for many years.
This enchanting figurative study of a female seems almost ALIVE, and yet she remains frozen in a moment of captured time. She encapsulates & embraces the very essence of the Art Deco period with outstanding beauty, combined with skillful naturalistic artistry.
Many of these incredibly modelled figural studies were produced during the 1930's and predominantly in Europe and particularly in France. All of these figurative French plaster studies are favourably admired French works of Art Deco sculpture and were even being produced under licence by their bronze counterpart designer/manufacturer of the period.
Many are signed by their sculptor artist or were produced directly from moulds based upon the highly priced & sought after bronzes of the period not as obvious fakes, but as faithful copies so as to be more affordable and accessible to the general public during the 1920s – 1940s.
The back stamp mark: REPRODUCTION - INTERDITE is a French copyright patent mark of the period signifying and informing that this sculpture cannot be reproduced.
Some, such as this example were then afforded with outstanding levels of hand applied paintwork so as to depict each feature, which in turn adds a sense of `life & movement' to the piece.
THIS figural Study is nice... and above that, it is VERY NICE, for it is a QUALITY French casting of its type and period.
It is a sculpture of outstanding serenity & gracefulness. It is also an impressive 23 inches in length.
The overall quality of expression of this piece is irreplaceable and who could fail to be enchanted by its timeless charm or to be disappointed with its captivating presence ...
The subject has been painstakingly produced from a handcrafted mould and using amalgamated combinations of plaster for stability, which is also internally strengthened using wire.
Each and every feature has been painted by hand in finite naturalist detail and tone.
From the loving facial expression of the lady, to her hair, her dress and feminine form all have been portrayed with artistic precision, whilst she gazes with tenderness towards a wonderfully portrayed bird of paradise.
The result is both peaceful and charming as my photographs illustrate and its appeal is undeniably spectacular and soothingly calm combined. She is a family piece and she has graced one of the fire mantle shelves, here at my late mother's home for as long as I can remember. I am not the only person to have imagined or to have commented her, as a clock. Not that she has ever been one, however 'the hoop' that she extends as a perch for the bird of paradise, would undoubtedly suit this very purpose without causing her any damage or loss of appeal, if so desired.
The sculpture is in remarkable good vintage condition and has a patina which cannot be disguised or replicated, and my photographs form a major part of this items description.
There is no damage to the plaster save for very slight vintage wear, as is shown upon just one corner of the base, but who can possibly suggest that this detracts from this wonderful statement piece!
She is simply wonderful and you will adore her. 100% +++ Guaranteed
It is also numbered which refers to the pattern model and NOT the quantity of its production. Records do not exist as to the French artisans who created this beautiful study, other than the sculptural works which have been left behind, but whoever they were, it can be seen from this outstanding example just how accomplished they truly were as artists of the Art Deco period.
