Superb Pair of Antique Tibetan Silver Pedestal Temple Snuff Bottles. Early 20th century

These flask shaped bottles are pedestal based and are signed in monogram to their underside base.

They have been made from silver and have been inlaid with coral & beads. Meticulous filigree is also a feature of this exquisite pair, which also retain their original caps and integrated spoons.

They are very old and in good vintage condition as is shown.

Many of these bottle types could be necklace attached or even more commonly they would be worn around the waist and clasped to a belt, however the pedestal base to this pair determine that they were also intended for temple use.

Generically named as being "Snuff Bottles" these exquisite items were also used to contain medicine powders by traveling Buddhist monks, being an essential with which to use whilst meditating. They would have also been used by both sexes.

Their origins as snuff bottles was due to the banning of tobacco smoking in China where it is thought that these wonderful items were firstly produced before spreading into Northern Asia.

Not to be confused with modern-day copies or Chinese mass produced imports,these are genuine period bottles dating from the early 20th century and are seldom found as pairs.

They were purchased by me in the foothills of Nepal at Pokhara.

All of these old snuff bottles from my collection, offer exceptionally good value for your investment. Each bottle is totally unique and is a genuine vintage original.

They are either Tibetan Mongolian or Nepalese of origin and have been entirely made by hand using a variety of materials.
